JSON

JSON is a human-readable text that is an open-standard file format. It's also easy for machines to parse and generate.

JSON is a syntax used for storing and exchanging data and serializing objects, arrays, numbers, strings, booleans, and null. It is based upon JavaScript syntax but is still different from it and some JavaScript is not JSON.

Objects and Arrays: All property names shall have double-quoted strings and trailing commas are forbidden.

Numbers: Leading zeros are prohibited and will be ignored or throw an error. A decimal point must be followed by one digit or more.

JSON Schema

The JSON Schema is used to specifiy a JSON-based format.  It defines the structure of JSON data for validation, documentation, and interaction control. It's like a contract for the JSON data that is needed and in what way that data can be modified.

The concept is similar to the XSD concept and like in XSD, the same serialization/deserialization tools can be used both for the schema and data; and is self-describing.

This is an example of how that can look like.

JSON Methods

JSON.parse()

Is for parsing a string as JSON, optionally transform the produced value and its properties, and return the value.

JSON.stringify()

Will return a JSON string that corresponds to the specified value, optionally including only certain properties or replacing property values in a user-defined manner.


JSON.stringify()

To convert a JavaScript value to a JSON string you should use the JSON.stringify() method.

JSON.parse()

The JSON.parse() method will parse a JSON string. This constructs the JavaScript value or object described by the string.
